The Village Festival is a travelling arts festival, coming to Benalla for the first time through Creative Arts Victoria’s Touring Program.
The Village grand opening will follow the street parade. Come through the impressive gateway and enter the Village world: a fun festival for the whole family. The Village takes the form of a series of highly decorated tents and caravans, and includes music, theatre, dance, film, circus, installations, storytelling, puppetry, live art and food. Check the blackboards on site for happenings in the village.
The creative folk of Benalla will be on display with some special guests.

Vardos represent the life, fun and and quirkiness of eastern European party music authenticated by virtuosic musicianship.
THE WORLD KITCHEN
The imaginary love child of Nigella and the Swedish Chef, this performative food stage hosts cooking demonstrations by local chefs, food stories and a kids cooking workshop.
OTTO LEARNS TO FLY
Otto has a dream. He wants to fly. But bears can’t fly – can they?
Otto learns to fly showcases Magic Lantern Studio’s exquisitely crafted hand puppets and ‘ready-mades’ in The Magic Lantern Travelling Puppet Theatre. Then the action explodes onto a much larger scale with Sanctum Theatre’s giant body puppets.
SUPER GIANT AMAZING GIRL
Action packed and interactive, this theatre show for kids combines thrilling circus, absurd comedy and ingenious physical theatre for mini humans and normal humans alike.
Join crazy Viking host Gherkin Khan and play some good old fashioned retro kids’ games. Also check out the cardboard arcade games created and hosted by local kids with artist Jens Altheimer. You’ll be amazed by the exciting games these youngsters come up with.
IN THE MOONHOUSE
Benalla’s local FReeZA team will entertain with a full afternoon of music and cool activities for their age zone.
10 MINUTE DANCE PARTIES
Boogie your heart out to Benalla’s best DJ’s, but only for 10 minutes. All ages welcome.

THE FAMOUS VILLAGE DOG SHOW – 4PM
Bring your dog to the Festival for a while and we’ll create a hilarious show with 4-legged friends and their owners. Great prizes!

BROKEN RIVER – Ben Stolz, 6.40pm
Broken River is a new project driven by Benalla-born singer-songwriter Ben Stolz. The act alternates as a solo performer or as a five piece. Broken River is distinctly dark and thoughtful with layered guitars, haunting vocals and big thumping drum sounds.
ELLA HOOPER – 7.30pm
Violet Town’s, Benalla’s and Australia’s most famous export, singer-songwriter, radio and TV personality returns to the region with a cranking set from her four piece band. Her school days in Benalla provided inspiration for song writing for the 90s mega-hit band Killing Heidi. Now a performer, radio and television presenter, Ella Hooper has a magnetic stage presence, not to be missed.
BENALLA MOTOR GROUP FIREWORKS
Between 9pm – 9.15pm (weather permitting)
Not just spectacular fireworks near Lake Benalla, this show includes burning sculptures and a live music soundtrack performed by David Thrussell accompanied by the Benalla P-12 College Symphonic Band.
